Creative Writing 101- Galjour. Lecture on December 10th

Creative Writing 101 Students,

I want to let you know about the homework and reading being done before our lecture on metaphor.  First I would like you to read Billy Collins’ “Snow Day” poem found here.  Just read it in its entirety on the first time.  Just sit back and try to read it out loud.  On the second reading, I want you to come up with 2-4 images in relation to the metaphors in the poem.  I want you to really to think of metaphor in terms of craft.  What makes these images stick out to you with metaphor?

Next, we will be doing an in-class annotation group assignment with voice with Billy Collins’ poem “The End of the World.”  Before we go into that next week, think of voice.  How can you add your own voice to each line in the poem?

If you guys are confused with annotation, not to worry!  Register on Hypothesis and create a username.  However, your username should be recognizable (so you can get credit for all the annotations for homework).

Here is a link to show you.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me.  I know this is a lot to take in.

Just don’t forget to create your own account when you use hypothesis.  Enjoy!
